Why did John and Monica sign up with Match.com?
Let's talk about me (John) first. When I first signed up for Match.com I was a second year graduate student living in Baltimore. The only way I knew how to meet new people was by going to a bar on the weekends. After years of doing this, frustration set in. Everytime I would leave a bar and get excited about a new girl that I had met, something would go wrong, either she wouldn't return my calls, or we would get together and just not hit it off as well when the booze wasn't flowing. Since I always enjoy messing around on the computer, I found Match.com and started searching through the local profiles and looking at what was available. Once I found numerous profiles of ladies in the area that I was interested in meeting, I signed up for Match.com. For about $25.00 a month, I was able to email anyone I wanted and create new relationships with people by emailing them and getting to know them before meeting them in public. I only communicated with 3 other ladies before I met Monica. When I started dating Monica, I cancelled Match.com because I knew I had found a winner!
Monica was in the same situation. Girls seem to have even more trouble than guys meeting someone nice in the bar / nightlife scene. Monica always said that most guys she met in bars where not the kind of guy that you would want to bring home to your father! Monica's dad actually suggested that she sign up for Match.com because he had a friend who was very successful with it. He thought it would be perfect for Monica. Monica dated a few guys before she found John and stopped seeing them when her relationship with John became more serious.
Here we have two normal (at least we think so) people, both college educated and funloving people who like to have a good time. We both had trouble meeting people in bars and other public places. However, Match.com worked for us. Why? Becuase we were able to get to know each other first. I didn't have to work a sly move in a crowded bar, offer to buy her drinks and say cool things all night long. I was able to be myself via email. And this is what works!
